  • On this Day September 13, 2017 – Bruce Straley, co-director of The Last of Us and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End departed from Naughty Dog after 18 years.

Summary

Bruce Straley, best-known as the co-director (along with Neil Druckmann) of The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, left Naughty dog after 18 years and did not explain the reasons behind the move. In both The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, he was very instrumental to shaping the gameplay. If you liked the careful balance between combat and peaceful moments, you credit some of that decision to him. Uncharted 4’s strong reception was no mean feat when Straley and Druckmann had to fill the shoes of legendary creative director Amy Hennig after her departure. Arguably, the fourth game was a return to form after losing some of its edge.
